Much like a counsellor, I take a ‘Listening’ approach to coaching health and fitness. This suits people that have struggled for years with their wellbeing – Those people, possibly like you, who really want to make sense of why health isn’t coming as easily to you, like people say it should.

But how is ‘Listening’ going to improve your health?Â
Well, because we get to find…
Balance.
Health emerges quite naturally when you learn to find your balance.
Have you noticed how your health and wellbeing dreams often remain unrealised because you simply don’t have the energy to devote to them? It’s like you’re expected to find yet another level of energy, on top of an already demanding life, just to access your right to be healthy.
My coaching practice is called Emergent Health because I noticed how people’s wellbeing emerges quite naturally when we balance our ‘Energy’ demands. Â
We gain energy from Sleep & Recovery Practices, Nutrition and having Purpose in our direction.Â
We spend that energy through Stress, Physical Activity and in Repair processes.Â
When we fail to stick to a modern health & fitness plan, it’s usually because we are out of balance in one, or more, of these six energy demands.
So the second step in our Health & Wellness Coaching together is to ‘Balance’ your energy demands. Â
And the final step? Well, it’s to…
Refine.
A lifetime of wellbeing is a breeze when you've refined your personal health preferences.
Refining is all about getting to your core values and preferences for health and wellbeing.Â
For example: You may want to get fit. But HOW would you like to go about that? (it doesn’t always have to be ‘reps in the gym’!)
Anything from running shoes to rollerblades, or tango gowns to garden trowels can be the answer to your fitness needs. Only you know what will light that spark within you.Â
The same goes for all six aspects of healthy energy balance – find your unique path, and health will emerge quite naturally.
So to help you ‘Refine’ your preferences for health, I’ve created for you your very own “Owner’s Manual” to support you through the coaching process.

Before we start any formal coaching I invite you to book a free ‘Discovery Call‘.Â
This call will give you and I the opportunity to find out whether health coaching is right for you.Â

This is where the real work is done. Each month you’ll have a 2 hour intensive coaching session dedicated to you.Â
Why Two Hours? Because ‘Listening’ takes time!
This coaching session is an opportunity to really talk, without the pressure of a ticking clock. You get the chance to truly open up, and I get the time to learn about you and how you’re balancing your energy demands right now.
Together, we’ll make a plan for the month ahead. Whether that be focussed on diet, fitness, sleep and recovery, stress management, repair or purpose, it all depends on what we learn about you.
There are two ways we can get together for these intensive coaching sessions.Â
Option 1: Walk And Talk:Â
This is by far my favourite way to coach. There is nothing like moving through open countryside to get people deep into conversation.
If you’re local enough we’ll get together at a designated country park in Sussex for a 2 hour walk. I’ll choose a location base on your current fitness, guide you on the walk and spend time listening to your health journey and future dreams.Â
By the end of the walk you’ll have a plan in place for the month ahead and memories of the beautiful Sussex countryside take home with you.
Option 2: Video Chat:
If the weather is bad, you’re struggling for time, or you simply live too far away, the wonders of technology has an answer!Â
Everything is the same, we’ll just do all of the Learning, Balancing and Refining coaching processes on a video call for these intensive sessions. Only now it’s in the comfort of your home; with a cup of tea to hand.
Either option works just as well and you’re welcome to mix and match if you like.Â
We can discuss work fits best for you on your ‘Discovery Call‘
On the other 3 weeks of each month we’ll schedule in a 30 minute video call to chat through the skills you’re working on. And I’ll assist you with any insights you might need to help you on your way.Â
Unlike the intensive coaching sessions these are meant to be short and snappy. It’s there to give us time to check in, problem solve, or celebrate your successes.Â
Above all it’s a great way to keep momentum going and build our coaching relationship.
You’re never completely alone and you don’t have to wait for a face-to-face session to get your questions answered.Â
You’ll have access to the members area of this website where you’ll find a Direct Messaging system. You can use this to ask any questions or get additional clarification at any time.Â
I’ll get back to you within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
You’ll receive your Owner’s Manual in the post soon after you sign up.Â
We’ll use the Owner’s Manual to get down on paper all your personal health preferences – How Recovery, Nutrition, Purpose, Stress, Movement and Repair all affect your wellbeing, and how you’d like to balance them to feel great.Â
The Owner’s Manual asked lots of questions, so you can use it to guide you throughout your health and fitness journey.Â
If you participate in filling it in, it will serve you for the rest of your life as a guide to your health preferences, bringing you back to your ideal path if life pulls you off in a different direction.Â
Because I keep to a small clientele, I have the opportunity to create useful resources to help them. You can find these resources within the member’s area of this website.Â
I’ll be updating the site regularly, so there will be a growing resource for you to help you on your journey to wellbeing.
The ‘Plus One’ is an opportunity to bring another person with you on this coaching journey. Sharing in the trials. Supporting each other in good times and bad. And sharing the cost!

In the past I’ve spread myself thin to support as many people as possible. But doing so comes at a cost – a cost that clients pick up via my thinly spread capacity to truly support them.
This is why I only work with a strictly limited number of clients now.
If you choose to have coaching with me you won’t find yourself being just another appointment in my diary.Â
My goal is to treat every client like family and get to know your needs deeply. Having a smaller number of clients means I can support each person by keeping in touch, creating useful resources and helping them develop the necessary support networks for success. This way I can better help you reach your health and wellbeing goals.
In other words, YOU get my full attention.
Most people come to me looking for general weight loss. Or a health goal driven by a fear of illness, or aging.Â
These goals are about as exciting as a treadmill at a dinner party! No wonder they are so difficult to realise.
That’s why I encourage people to develop a Crazy, Audacious Goal instead.Â
A Crazy, Audacious Goal is something you can work towards that will actually bring meaning to your life. Something that would truly benefit your soul, yet at the same time give an opportunity to apply healthy lifestyle changes that will make the experience even more amazing (and it helps us focus the ‘Purpose’ area of emergent health to help keep you balanced.)
We’ll chat about this throughout our coaching time together, playing with ideas and setting targets to reach that goal over time.Â
I promise, this is a far better way to create lasting health change than any number on a bathroom scale ever will.Â

This is a great question and the answer, as is so often the case, is: “It depends”.
My passion is to help people gain confidence with their health and fitness.
Wellbeing to me is not about how you look. It’s about how you FEEL. So I’m not as focussed on aesthetics, as say, a regular personal trainer or weight loss coach might be.
Fitness and weight management are natural consequences of a healthy lifestyle. But focussing on health, rather that aesthetics, has one major advantage – There is no guilt involved!
No right way to do things. No wrong way either. Just the way that allows health and wellbeing emerge in YOU. And that’s an individual thing.
So ‘Health Coaching’ IS right for you if you resonate with this philosophy and want to learn HOW to be healthy in the context of YOUR life.

What happens when you book a Discovery Call?Â
I’ll send you a link to a form for you to fill in. This will give me some background information on you and enable me to learn what you’re hoping to get out of Health Coaching. This will give us a head start on the call. With this information in our hands we’ll chat it all through, digging a little deeper, and I’ll provide you with some insights you can take away; just like any other coaching client.Â
Towards the end of the call we’ll chat about whether coaching is the right fit for your goals. (If not, then I’ll happily share my advice about what might be the best fit.)Â
But hopefully what I provide, and what meets your aspirations, will be aligned. If that’s the case, and you want to be coached through health change, then we can discuss the best plan of action.Â
You can go away and think about it, or sign up right there. Either way is just fine with me. No pressure. No sales tactics. Just good old fashioned service.
You’re absolutely correct.Â
You may have already noticed that when you ramp up your exercise or restrict your calories, something often halts your progress; taking you back to square one time and time again.
This is because restricting diet, or increasing exercise, both result in having less energy (one restricts getting it, the other spends it quickly).Â

Diet (nutrition) and exercise (movement) are just two of the SIX important ingredients to gaining health. Â
Sleep, stress, injury and a lack of purpose (why you’re following this path in the first place) all tug at your energy reserves, and they affect your diet and exercise decisions on a daily basis too.Â
For example, there is a huge body of research showing the link between an accumulated lack of sleep and the food choices we make. Here’s an article I wrote on the subject.Â
So I look at the bigger picture with my clients. I ask questions like:Â
“Why did your past health drives fail?”, “Do you have the energy balance to take on calorie restriction to lose weight right now?”, “Why are you prone to injury shortly after starting an exercise programme?”, etcetera …
Therefore, here at Emergent Health my coaching takes a deeper look into a person’s wellbeing and seeks to find more sustainable solutions.Â
Initially, yes.Â
To start your coaching journey we have clients commit to 3 months of weekly coaching.Â
One intensive call and three short check-ins each month, direct messaging, online resources and my guaranteed attention to fulfilling your needs: £660 (£220/month).
Each month we’ll do an intensive session where we get to really talk through everything that feels important at the time. From that session we’ll make a plan of simple skills for you to practice.Â
The additional 30 minute calls, and the direct messaging, are there to help support you in building these skills.Â
Health and wellbeing is a lifetime pursuit, not a 3 month package. So after the initial three months we’ll discuss what suits you best moving forwards, so you can sustain your health longterm. That might mean doing another package, going month-by-month or moving on to practice your new skills on your own. We can discuss what works best for you when the time comes.Â
It’s simple really. Reaching health goals is much easier when you have support. It’s even easier still if one of those people supporting you is on the same shared journey. You can be there for each other through good times and bad.Â
Now, there are a few ifs and buts here, so let’s talk through them.Â
Firstly, you’re sharing a single coaching call together, and because of that you’ll both be agreeing to learn the same, or similar skills at the same time. That way you can support each other in mastering them.Â
Secondly, you’re also sharing information about yourself in this small group setting. This can occasionally lead to a reluctance in sharing vital information with your Coach – stemming from a hesitation to share it in front of your Plus One. It’s important for a Coach to get the full picture, but I completely respect your desire for privacy. So to help, you can both use the Private Messaging system to share this information with me confidentially.Â
Thirdly, you’re agreeing to go on the same journey to reach a particular kind goal – something experiential, rather than a weight target. We’ll discuss this on your Discovery call. If your Plus One is looking to achieve something different from you, then unfortunately they’ll need to join up separately. This only works when we’re all moving in the same direction.Â
The benefit to having a shared experience, however, is vast. Sure, it halves the cost for each of you, but more than that is the camaraderie you’ll feel working towards a common goal. Â
So if teaming up suits you, I highly recommend it.
A one off setup charge of £125.
To cover the cost of the additional Owner’s Manual and the time taken to process intake and medical history forms etc, I charge a one time fee of £125 to add a Plus One to your coaching.Â
After that, the standard coaching session pricing is shared between you.
The Plus One will have the same access to the same online resources and Private Messaging as you do, so after the initial sign up fee everything will be the same.Â
